David K. "Snuffy" Smith

David K. "Snuffy" Smith, 65, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He was born February 2, 1947 in Bucyrus to the late Homer Leroy and Ruth (Burwell) Smith. David graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1965 and from 1966-69 served in the US Army during Vietnam. He returned to Bucyrus and on August 28, 1971 married Rhonda L. Byers who survives. David believed in hard work and doing things right the first time. He worked for 25 years at Teynor's where he set and finished mobile homes and from 1994 to 2009 he drove truck.

Snuffy, as he was known by many, was a highly opinionated man and even when he was wrong, he was right. He was a loving and caring man who did anything and everything for his family. They spent many hours in the backyard playing cornhole, listening to music and socializing. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, attending races and he enjoyed an occasional ride on the Harley Davidson.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Snuffy is survived by his greatest accomplishments, his children, Kristy (Joshua Wilson) Agin and David L. (Stephanie) Smith; five grandchildren, Ronnie, Johnathan and Alyssa Agin, Taylor and Keith Smith all of Bucyrus; one brother, H.A. (Chrys) Smith of Bucyrus; two sisters, Barb Bedson of Bucyrus and Carol (Dean) Hoppy of New Albany; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Byers, of Bucyrus in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick "Fritz" and James Smith; three sisters, Eileen Smith, Mary Wolfe and Edith Barth; a brother-in-law, Junior Bedson and his father-in-law, Ronald N. Byers.

Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Wise Funeral Service, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Bernie France officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites being provided by both the US Army and Am. Legion Honor Guards.

Memorial contributions may be given to Wounded Warrior Project through the funeral home.
