David Bara Rios, 85, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Kobacker Hospice House in Columbus with family by his side.
He was born December 19, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Francisco and Brijida (Bara) Rios. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to the Clyde, Ohio area where he called this home until being drafted to serve in the US Army. Following his honorable discharge a couple years later, he returned to Clyde where he met Genevieve L. Baker. They married in 1957 and shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Dave spent roughly 40 years at GTE which is what eventually brought the family to Bucyrus in 1984. Following that retirement, he did similar work with Ken Myers Company and was an asset to him for ten years.
Dave enjoyed fishing and bowling for most of his life but following retirement, his daughter purchased him a set of golf clubs so he took up golf. New Winchester Golf Course became a second home to Super Dave, as he was referred to by fellow members for his handyman skills in maintaining the golf course. He enjoyed helping the owners of the golf course over the years and formed a special bond with a pug, “Beefy”, who was always by his side.
Dave was a humble man with a great sense of humor who listened with a nonjudgmental ear. He enjoyed playing the lottery and recently checked off an item on his bucket list by going to Las Vegas with family.
Dave was a lifelong Presbyterian, serving as a former deacon at the church in Clyde and held membership in Bucyrus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 181 and the Independent Telephone Company.
Dave is survived by his wife Gennie; four children, Debra Miller of Toledo, Douglas (Ang) Rios of Clayton, NY, Deanna (Jeff) Kernan of Rochester, NY and Duane (Tammy) Rios of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Hitomi) Miller, Keagan Rios, Gabriella Rios, Italia Rios, Trey Kernan, Haley Kernan, Jacob Bruns and Nicholas Bruns as well as two great grandchildren, Zeyden and Navy Miller. Also surviving are four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
His family will gather with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday, February 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Bucyrus where his memorial service will be held that day beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Cory officiating. Burial will take place in Clyde at McPherson Cemetery in the near future.
Donations can be made to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County or to Deacons of First Presbyterian Church in Bucyrus. Gifts can be given through Wise Funeral Service or at the church.
