Daniel H. Ulmer

Daniel H. Ulmer, 73, of Marion, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 18, 2024.

He was born July 2, 1951 in Bucyrus to Howard and Gertrude (Wert) Ulmer and was raised in Tiro with his two sisters, Susan and Sharon. Danny attended Fairway Waycraft School and Industries and in 1978, moved to Marion where he could live independently and experience more opportunities. Danny worked at Marca industries for many years up to his retirement. 

He loved being around others and was always eager to strike up a conversation with anyone, as he knew no strangers. Danny absolutely loves his Cleveland Guardians and could tell you every day and time they were going to play as well as their win/loss record. He even planned his days around the ball games. Danny was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and loved to switch to football mode in the fall. He enjoyed listening to the local football games on the radio and often updated his friends about the details of the game as well as the outcomes when he made his daily and weekly calls. He always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed his friends that lived at the Marion Towers over the years. 

Danny was very full of life and loved to take the MAT bus to McDonald's and Subway. He would get his Diet Coke or unsweetened tea and visit with everyone that came through the door. He had the pleasure of going on a few cruises where he could enjoy all the amenities of a lavish life on the sea with his friends. He was a very dear friend who always made time to call and talk to those he cared about daily, like clockwork! He enjoyed talking about his old shows like the Facts of Life, Andy Griffith and his westerns. He enjoyed going out and trying new restaurants and recently found a new love for Crumbl Cookies and Canes. Danny cherished time spent at holiday dinners with his friends and quickly became just like family. 

Left to cherish his memories are his sister, Susan Ulmer of Fostoria and brother-in-law, Mark Gruebmeyer of Texas as well as many nieces and nephews. Danny will be missed by his special friends at CLE and his many friends in the Marion community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Gertrude Ulmer and his sister, Sharon Gruebmeyer. 

Friends may call from 11-12 pm on Monday, November 25 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, where his funeral will immediately follow at 12:00 pm with Minister Russell Howard officiating. He will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery.

If desired, donations can be made payable to Special Olympics Ohio Marion County and will be accepted through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
