Clara Hammond, 88, of Bucyrus died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Carlisle House.
She was born April 1, 1925 in Waterville, Maine to the late Edward and Rosanna (Laroche) Courteau. Raised in Lynn, Mass., she graduated from English High in 1942. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH, and attended graduate school at Keene State College. She taught elementary school in Goffstown, NH until her retirement to Florida in 1987. Clara was a professional singer in her youth and sang with the USO. She also enjoyed traveling and following politics.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Richard I. Hammond. She is survived by three children, Mark (Colleen) Hammond of Kingston, NH, Lynne (Charles) Miller of Bucyrus, and Heather (John) Hokans of Bucyrus; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. John Miller as celebrant. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Bucyrus Salvation Army through Wise Funeral Service.
