Cindy A. Smith

Cindy Ann Smith, 64, of Bucyrus entered her eternal home in Heaven following her passing on December 4, 2024. She had her loving husband by her side and was under the care of Avita Hospice.

Cindy was born February 27, 1960 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Jack W. and J. Maxine (Hayes) Miller. When she was nine years old, her family moved to Toledo to care for her paternal grandmother, and she graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 1978. She was working at a local K-Mart #4166 when a co-worker matched her up with another employee, Bradley J. Smith. Their first date was to the International Festival at the Toledo Sports Arena and they hit it off right away. He proposed to her 3 weeks after their first date and they married on August 22, 1981, renewed their vows in 2006, sharing 43 memorable years together.

In 1993, Pastor Brad and Cindy, began their ministry in Bucyrus. Cindy faithfully encouraged and supported Brad, ministering alongside her husband as “A PASTOR’S WIFE” at First Christian, First United Church of Christ (Galion), Bucyrus United Methodist Church, the Lemert/Plankton Churches, Mt. Zion and Altercare, until her health slowed her down. Cindy taught Sunday School, was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, served as a church Elder, baked and crafted items for various church fundraisers. But what filled her heart the most was working to, for and with children – adapting a variety of children and youth programs and ministries to teach about Jesus and his love. She especially loved everything about VBS.

Cindy also volunteered with Bucyrus City Schools; Crawford County Student Mentoring Program; Salvation Army lunch and the Christmas Cheer programs; and did ministry with the Waycraft Senior Adults. Because of her love shown for others, she was nominated by her husband for the 2010 Class of “10 Outstanding Women You Should Know” sponsored by WBCO/WQEL. As it should be, she was one of the ten deserving women to have received that year’s award.

Most recently, Cindy loved spending time with her grandchildren. They played games, read many books and were always “making memories” doing a fun craft or activity. She loved learning sign language and even taught some of what she knew to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching shows on the Hallmark channel and talking to her friends and family on the phone. Her words of encouragement and companionship will be missed by many.

In addition to her husband Brad, Cindy is survived by her two children, Star Bradley and Aron Lee Palace Smith; two grandchildren, Charlotte Ann Smith and Paisley Mae Smith; sister, Carolyn Miller; extended family in Nashville; childhood friend, Juiwanna Mullins; and godchildren Bradley Bohland and Adam Ponziani.

A memorial visitation for Cindy will be held from 11-12:55 pm Tuesday, December 10 at Mt. Zion Community Global Methodist Church, 1192 Mt. Zion Rd., Bucyrus, followed by her memorial service at 1:00 pm with Pastor David Smithey officiating. All are then welcome to stay for a meal at the church. Cindy will be privately inurned in Oakwood Cemetery.

If desired, donations can be made payable to either Mt. Zion Community Church or Nationwide Children’s Hospital. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service or at the church on

the day of services. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook.
