Charles Watts, 79, of Bucyrus and a former longtime resident of Rittman, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in the presence of those nearest and dearest to his heart.
Charlie was born on March 2, 1945 at home in Wayne County, West Virginia, son of the late Rev. Shiloh and Lucy (Casteel) Watts. When he was 13, his family moved to Rittman, Ohio and sometime later, he served in the Army.
On June 30, 1968 he married Barbara Shear. Charlie was working as a barber and was also attending Moody Bible College as to follow in his father’s footsteps, but with children entering the picture, God felt it best for Charlie to continue doing what he did best, which was cut hair and help raise a family. He owned and operated Charlie’s Barbershop and served clients for over 50 years, retiring due to a decline in health. Over the past few years, he’s enjoyed being close to family in the Myrtle Beach area and most recently close with his son in Bucyrus.
Charlie was a Godly man, who had a strong love for the Lord. He did pulpit supply, served as a deacon and was a lay speaker at the various churches they attended.
Charlie enjoyed riding motorcycles, and camping, but his favorite pastime was fishing. It didn’t really matter what he was fishing for as long as they were biting.
He will be remembered for his unique laugh, referred to as the “Charlie laugh”, and very much appreciated the companionship offered by his cat, Garfield. For relaxation, Charlie could be found in his favorite recliner.
In addition to Barb, his wife of 56 years, Charlie is survived by children, Kelly (John) Marnell, Kevin (Kristy) Watts, Keri (Aaron) Ziegler, and Kenny Watts; grandchildren, Derek (Summer) Golden, Daniel (Megan) Golden, Dylan (Julia) Watts, Kynzie Watts, Jaedan Watts, James Ziegler, Jacob Ziegler, Evan Stowe, and Madison Sulser; one great granddaughter, Adalyn Golden and a sister, Liza Crossley.
His family will celebrate his life privately and donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice. Expressions of sympathy can be shared with his family on his guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.
