Charles S. Usher

Charles S. Usher, 96, of Bucyrus, died Monday, April 5 at Maplecrest Assisted Living in Bucyrus. He was born August 31, 1913 in Youngstown and was a 1931 graduate of Cheney High School in Youngstown. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and on February 22, 1945 he married Ruth V. Cramer who preceded him in death in October of 1975. Following his service time, he worked at Youngstown Steel Car in Niles until they shut down in the early 1960's. The family then moved to Bucyrus and Charles worked for Shunk Manufacturing as a mechanical engineer until retiring in the early 1980's. Charles is survived by two sons, Paul Usher and wife Cathy of Bucyrus and Charles C. Usher of Columbus; three grandchildren, Sara Usher and Elizabeth Usher, both of Bucyrus, and Jason Greiner of California. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles S. Usher; mother and stepfather, Barbara M. (Curtis) Barry and Joseph T. Barry; one son, William J. Usher; one grandson, Bradley P. Greiner and two brothers, Thomas Usher and Paul Barry. Charles was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church; the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Bucyrus Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at Wise Funeral Service, where a Rosary service will be held that evening at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald J. LeJeune, Celebrant and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to William J. Usher Memorial Scholarship Fund or to Holy Trinity Catholic Church through the funeral home.
