Charles R. Billings

Charles R. Billings, 65, died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Bucyrus Community Hospital following various health issues associated with his cancer. Though sick for several years, Chuck put up a good fight and he and Penny were always able to find humor as a way of coping.

Chuck was born May 12, 1950 in Tiffin to the late Richard J. and Janis L (Salyer) Billings. He was a 1968 graduate of Mohawk High School and attended the University of Toledo. In 1970 Chuck married Donna (Williams) Frederick. They were together for 17 years and are survived by a daughter, Shari.

Chuck was an entrepreneurial person who worked various jobs, including; contractor, Timken employee, cabinetry and maintenance but his passion was flooring. He owned and operated CB Carpet in Upper Sandusky for many years until his retirement in 2009.

He was one of the most caring and loving men around, characteristics noticed by the mother of Penny L. (Hoover) Williams whom introduced the two in 1999. It was an instant connection and they were married January 1, 2000. For the past 15 years, they’ve cherished time spent with family, enjoyed travels to Florida and other parts of the country, restored a 1966 Chevy II and most of all, loved dancing, even in the privacy of their own home, with their favorite song being “The Gift” by Collin Raye.

Chuck was a member of the 4C’s and when not restoring a car, could be found remodeling something in their home. His four legged companions, Gracie and Sparky rarely left his side and following retirement, he and Penny had the joy of watching “the Kiddos”, a group of children they cared for as their own.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Penny; daughter Shari (Vince) Brickner of Arlington, Texas; two step-sons, Chad Williams of Westerville and Owen Williams of Gahanna; three step grandchildren, Lucas Williams, Brittani Scott and Brooke Brickner; three brothers, James (Donna) Billings, Daniel (Cheri) Billings and Jerry (Kathy) Billings; three sisters, Betty Ritter, Mary (Doyle) Williams and Nana Jane Billings. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Smith and a brother-in-law, Steve (Debbie) Hoover; many nieces and nephews; his Kiddos, Carlie, Lincoln, Cora, Norah, Wyatt, Baby Ben and Graham and his “road trip” buddy, Arland McMichael.

Chuck is preceded in death by one sister, Lenora Clark and his father-in-law, Bob Smith.

His family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 19 at Wise Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Bucyrus United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Chuck will not be taxidermied as he and Penny joked but rather buried in Nevada Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, Cleveland Hope Lodge or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the funeral home.
