Charles F. Auck, 94 passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023 at home with loving family.
He was born on September 11, 1928 in Bucyrus to the late Paul C. and Freda M. Kocher Auck. He married Marjorie L. Bardon Auck on July 2, 1950. He graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1946 and begin working at General Hydraulics in his senior year as machinist. He moved up to earn the job of Plant Manager (his family called him the Head Huncho). His company merged with Galion Ironworks and then again with Komastsu Dresser. He retired after 46 years and enjoyed his retirement for 31 years.
Charles will be remembered as a hard-working devoted husband and father sharing his story of growing up, ancestry, and teaching the children life lessons! He also was a great listener and lent advice on money, carpentry, and motor engine repair. He also was an avid gun and stamp collector who enjoyed watching the Buckeyes, Indians and, before their move, the Browns. As a life member of the Epworth Methodist Church he donated and had visitors from the church. He was an American Legion member for 44 years, having served in non-active Naval Reserve. While in the reserve, Charles served aboard the USS Kearsarge. The Kearsarge was scrapped in 1974, but a new ship by the same name was commissioned in 1992 which Charles’ grandson, Jeremiah Wadkins, served on in 1998-99. Charles also enjoyed building go-carts and motors with his father, so Gary could race. He made with the family fold down campers and a canoe. He really loved fishing, camping and cookouts with loved ones. At home he liked to listen to music legends and watch Judge Judy.
Charles is survived by his wife Marjorie Auck; children Gary (Marilyn) Auck, Deborah (Alva) Wadkins, and Linda (Glenn) Grubb; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother Lester (Marvel) Auck; and also cousins Patti Ike and Barb Cullen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Donna Jean Auck.
Services will be held at Wise Funeral Home in Bucyrus on Tuesday the 13th of June. Family will receive friends from 11 to 11:55 AM and the funeral will begin at 12 Noon with Pastor Brad Smith officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
