Charles A. Massie

Charles Arthur Massie, 65, of Bucyrus died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 21, 2015.



He was born in Ironton, Ohio on January 10, 1950 but was raised in Bucyrus by his mom and stepfather, Marjorie (Montgomery) and Thomas J. Carpenter. Charlie attended school in Bucyrus and worked a couple of jobs before being hired in at Komatsu Dresser in Galion where he worked until his health no longer allowed.



Charlie was the life of the party and loved socializing with family and friends at the Amvets, Moose Lodge, VFW, Galion Owls Club and also just sitting by a bonfire at his home where he could enjoy some good country or bluegrass music. He was known to play spoons and will always be remembered for “The Charlie Shuffle” as he loved to dance. He also liked a round of golf now and then and enjoyed playing cards when the opportunity arose.



In addition to his mom, Marjorie A. Carpenter, Charlie is survived by two daughters, Angela (Scott) Oberlander and Brandy (Dave) Shupp; three grandchildren, Bryden and Alexa Oberlander and Chase Shupp, all of Bucyrus; one sister, Brenda Massie of Ironton, a stepson, Jeremy (Dawn) McAdams of Bucyrus; two step-grandchildren, Nathan and Sydney and a special friend, Pam Gifford.



He was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Massie; stepfather, Thomas J. Carpenter; five siblings, Charles Massie, Randy Massie, Bill Massie, Opal Massie and most recently, Thomas F. Carpenter.



A memorial gathering will be held at Wise Funeral Service from 3-5 p.m. Friday, September 25 immediately followed by a memorial service beginning at 5:00 p.m. with Mark Dettmer, Certified Celebrant, officiating. Charlie always stated that at his services, his one request was for those attending to please dress casual and if you can’t make it, please raise a glass in his memory!



Contributions may be given to the funeral home to help offset some unexpected expenses and memories are encouraged to be shared below.
