Catherine I. James

Catherine Irene James, 79 of Tiro, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Millcreek Nursing Center in Galion.



She was born September 10, 1937 in Tiro on the family farm to the late George and Elsie (Neff) Feik. Catherine was a 1955 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and on November 2, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Melvin L. James who survives.



Catherine cared for her family as a homemaker while raising her children and later worked as a sales associate for Faces and Fashion in Bucyrus and also spent many years as a teller at First Federal Community Bank, working in New Washington and Bucyrus. She was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, devoting much of her time to directing and singing in the choir and was a member of the Friendship Class and Women’s Guild. Catherine found comfort in playing the piano and enjoyed attending any local musical performances.



In addition to Melvin, her husband of 58 years, Catherine is survived by two sons, Marvin (Kara) James and Michael (Elizabeth) James; five grandchildren whom she enjoyed watching grow, Britney (Landyn) Hill, Braxton James, Carson James, Alex James and Ellie James; two siblings, Kenneth (Evelyn) Feik and her twin, Carolyn (Eldon) Pfleiderer as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.



Her family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Friday, June 23 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Gary Schiefer officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Sulphur Springs.



Memorial contributions can be made payable to St. John’s UCC or a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
