Carrie Ann Robertson, 43, died unexpectedly on February 13, 2025 after a recent illness.
She was born August 28, 1981 in Bucyrus to David and Beverly “Brandy” (Hildenbrand) Robertson. Carrie graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1999, Ohio Northern University in 2003, and earned her master’s degree from Ashland University.
From an early age, Carrie never shied away from a conversation. She could connect with anyone, and she will be remembered for the animated use of her hands when speaking. At six months old, a rare condition in her leg started a long health journey that led her to make the decision to amputate. This decision sparked a newness of life, allowing her to attend school without interruption, join the high school marching band and created the opportunity for her to be an advocate and understanding ear for others facing similar diagnoses. She faced obstacles head on and even commemorated each year of her journey by celebrating, "Leg Day." Carrie’s career in education took her from Springfield to Mid-Ohio ESC to Fairway School, and eventually “home” to Bucyrus Elementary School where she was proud to serve children as an Intervention Specialist and her fellow employees as a union rep. She also taught after-school curriculum as well as summer school and loved every life she was able to impact.
Outside of school, Carrie cherished her family. They loved gathering at home, spending vacations together in Hilton Head, and enjoying their weekend getaways in Marblehead. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sulphur Springs where she served as youth group leader, Sunday School teacher, played in the bell choir, and was the current president of Women of the Church. Carrie also was active in the American Legion Post Unit 181 Auxiliary, had recently joined the Marblehead VFW 7572 Auxiliary, and was on the board of Bucyrus Backpack Program.
Over the years, Carrie enjoyed attending many concerts including several New Kids on the Block shows, the first of which was at the Crawford County Fair in 1989. She was in 4-H and a Junior Fair Board member in her youth. In addition to Hilton Head, her travels took her to Alaska, San Antonio, California, D.C., Florida, and on several recent reunion trips with her Alpha Xi Delta sisters. Carrie’s “Mum’s the Word Cheesecake” recipe, having been passed down to her by her late Uncle Tom, was enjoyed at many family gatherings and raised many a dollar at community fundraisers.
Her smile, willingness to take on challenges, and all-around can-do attitude will be forever remembered by Carrie’s family, friends, students, co-workers, and community.
Carrie is survived by her parents, David and Brandy Robertson; sister, Amber Robertson; dog, Loretta; aunts and uncles, Barb & Ron Higbie and Peg & Roger Wells; along with many cousins and beloved extended family. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles E. "Bud" & Rosemary Robertson and Albert & Margaret Hildenbrand.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18 from 3-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. On Wednesday, her funeral will begin at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4707 Ridgeton-Annapolis Rd., Sulphur Springs with Joe Beran officiating and burial will take place at 2:30 pm in Oakwood Cemetery.
Those wishing to make memorial donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to make them payable to Children’s Tumor Foundation, St. Paul Lutheran Church (Air Conditioning Fund), or Bucyrus Elementary School and give through the funeral home.
Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Carrie’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
