Carrie Grau Hedding

Carrie Mae Grau Hedding, 90, of Bucyrus died Wednesday morning, July 16, 2014 at Carlisle Place in Bucyrus where she had resided for over a year.

She was born in Bucyrus on January 24, 1924 to the late Clarence G. and Jennie (Ziegenfus) Stoltz. Raised on the family farm in Whetstone Twp., Carrie attended Whetstone High School where she played violin in the orchestra and graduated in 1943. She worked at Bucyrus Community Hospital and cleaned homes prior to marrying Howard Grau who preceded her in death in 1967. Carrie moved back to the family farm where she raised their four sons and ran the farm after her father’s death in 1969. She later married Ory R. Hedding who also preceded her in death.

Carrie will be remembered as frugal and outspoken, always knowing where she stood on a variety of issues. She enjoyed having the family get together over holidays and baked delicious sweet potato and pecan pies. Though she never learned to drive, she got around on her gas powered bicycle and kept in touch with friends and neighbors over the telephone. She was faithful at visiting patients in nursing homes and was a member of the Mothers of Twins Club, VFW 8999 Auxiliary, and the former Orioles Club.

Carrie is survived by four sons, John (Janis) Grau of Sulphur Springs, Mark (Brenda) Grau of Marion, Larry Grau of Houston, Texas and Gary (Darlene) Grau of Lima; eight grandchildren, Jacob (Casie) Grau, Adam Grau, Jeremy (Tera) Grau, Sarah (Ryan) Campbell, Alanna Grau, Abbi Grau, Mark Puglise and Monica (Joe) Taflinger; and eight great grandchildren, Braeden, Quinn, Evan, Tyler, Allison, Andrew, Norah and Emma.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Carrie was preceded in death by her brother, Myron Stoltz.

The Grau family will receive friends on Friday, July 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where the funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David DiPietro officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
