Carole A. Holt

Carole Ann (Schell) Holt, 84, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Avita Health System in Bucyrus. She had been in failing health.

Carole was born September 14, 1940 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Margaret (Riddlebaugh) and Robert Schell. Her family moved to New Mexico for a brief period before moving back to Bucyrus. In 1958 she graduated from Bucyrus High School and held various jobs before hiring in at Timken where she worked for 37 years and four months before her retirement in 2002. On May 22, 1970, she married Donald R. Holt who preceded her in death April 15, 1989.

Over the years, Carole enjoyed time spent with her family and also devoted much of her time at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was a longtime member. She sang tenor in the church choir, served on COTTA and the Fellowship Committee, and was a chairperson for both the Lay Readers and Communion. Carole was also a member of the Bucyrus Little Theatre, where she served on their board for 20 years and performed in plays. She was a longtime volunteer at the Bucyrus Hospital Gift Shop and a member of Altrusa, the Bucyrus Moose, Friends of the Library, Bucyrus Elks Lodge, and the Red Hat Ladies. Carole formerly enjoyed many years of playing tennis with friends, loved reading whenever she could and always enjoyed a game of euchre.

Carole is survived by two children, Matthew (Jane) Holt of Dothan, Alabama and Monica (Dan) Zornes of Bucyrus; five granddaughters, eight great grandchildren; brother, Dean (Nancy) Schell of Columbus and many nieces and nephews. She felt fortunate to remain close with Don’s family and is survived by brother-in-law, Gary (Sherry) Holt and sisters-in-law, Kathy (Chris) Murray, Joann Needles and Sue Holt.

In addition to her parents and husband, Don, Carole was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shumana Zornes; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Holt and brother-in-law, Jim Holt.

Her family will receive friends from 10 – 11:55 am Tuesday, January 21 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will follow that day at 12:00 noon with Pastor Mike Greenler officiating. Carole will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.
