Carol Ann Stineman, 73, of Bucyrus went to meet her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, March 5, 2014 at the Inn at Orchard Park after a four month battle with brain cancer.
She was born in Bucyrus on April 2, 1940 to the late Carl R. Etzinger and Mary E. (Shaffstall) Etzinger Dowler. Carol graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1958 and worked at Bob’s Sandwich Shoppe and Dairy Crest as a teenager. In the summer of 1956, after watching a movie with Edith Eaton, a young man named Jim Stineman began talking to her uptown. After brushing him off for a July 4th date, she agreed to see him on the 6th and never looked back. Jim and Carol were married in the Grace E.U.B. Church on June 28, 1959. The Stineman’s lived throughout Ohio as Jim’s teaching career moved them and they returned to Bucyrus in 1966. After her children were grown, she worked part-time at Suburban Lanes for 15 years.
Carol will be remembered for her unique laugh and as a caring and sacrificial mother who enjoyed holiday get-togethers, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. While not the biggest sports fan, she was often seen at area events with Jim and supporting her children. She stayed in touch with her friends from high school and was the consummate caregiver for friends and family alike. Carol had a strong faith, met Jesus as her Savior at a young age and recommitted her life to the Lord in recent years. She was a lifelong member and the former Grace UMC and now worshipped with Bucyrus United Methodist Church.
Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Stineman; their children, Rick (Chris) Stineman of Lexington, Mike (Christy) Stineman of Marion and Vikki (Brady) Schifer of Bucyrus; one grandson, Austin Schifer; three step-grandchildren, Andy, J.T. and Savannah Mattone; and her brother, Jim (Miriam) Etzinger of Bucyrus.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Allen Stineman and stepfather, Bud Dowler.
The Stineman family will receive friends on Friday, March 7 from 5-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where her funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
