Carol (Kent-Shealy) Scheffler

Carol M. Scheffler, 81, of Bucyrus died early Friday, October 20, 2017 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.



She was born December 4, 1935 in Crawford County to the late Ernest and Iva (Garton) Kent and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1953. She was married to Weldon Shealy, with whom she had four children, for 17 years and she married Wayne E. Scheffler on July 4, 2003. Wayne preceded her in death earlier this year on May 14. Carol studied cosmetology and graduated from Mansfield Beauty College in 1959. She worked in the profession for 43 years, managing various salons, teaching courses at Tri Rivers, owning the Comb & Curl Salon, and retiring from Famous Hair as regional manager.



Carol was a woman of faith and lifelong Lutheran. She was baptized in Nevada Lutheran, confirmed at St. Paul’s in Bucyrus, and raised her family at St. John’s in New Washington and Good Hope in Bucyrus. She served Bible schools, sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild and assisted with Easter breakfast. She was one of CONTACT Crawford County’s inaugural class of volunteers, serving the organization for seven years, and she enjoyed her activity at Bucyrus Little Theatre, both acting and doing cosmetics. In more recent years, she loved watching her grandchildren grow up and attending their activities and she enjoyed reading and watching sporting events on television.



Carol is survived by four sons, Mark (Debbie) Shealy, Taddeus (Kelley) Shealy, Lance (Nikki) Shealy, and Troy (Brooke) Shealy; six grandchildren, Katie Shealy, Alan (Brittany) Shealy, Ryan Shealy, Quinn Shealy, Avery Shealy, and Ian Shealy; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Aubrie; two stepsons, Randy (Laurie) Scheffler and Dale (Jo Anna) Scheffler and their families; her sister, Ruth (Dennis) Atkison; along with many nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband Wayne, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Dale (Phyllis) Kent, Kenneth (Naomi) Kent, Vernon (Suzanne) Kent, and Marie Kent and two stepsons, Gary and Michael Scheffler.



Carol’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 27 from 10 -11:50 am at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus followed by her memorial service at 12 Noon with Pastor Renee Ahern officiating. Inurnment will follow in Nevada Cemetery.
