Carol I. Garvin

Carol I. Garvin of Bucyrus completed her life journey on May 4, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on November 11, 1923 in Crawford County to the late Earl L and Hazel E (Kirgis) Knieriemen. Carol graduated from Lykens High School and on September 27, 1941 married her grade school sweetheart, Russell R. Garvin, who preceded her in death August 17, 2009. They were married for 67 years.

Russ served in the U.S. Army in World War II. While Russ was stationed at various bases in the U.S., Carol followed him to many of them including Spokane, Washington where she worked at the Air Depot repairing fighter planes while Russ was deployed to China, Burma and India. Carol also worked at GE and Timken before she and Russ worked side-by-side together in their Garvin's Car Care Center service station business for 57 years until it was sold in 2005.

Carol was a member of Gospel Baptist Church where she was baptized with Russ and her granddaughter, Jessica. She also participated in many organizations in the community. She was a hostess for the Welcome Wagon, member of the American Legion where she shared many lunches with the "Golden Girls" over the years, and she was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines of Bucyrus. Carol enjoyed baking, gardening, tending to her flowers and birds, and making crafts. Most of all, Carol enjoyed time spent with special friends and family. She hosted many celebrations and holidays over the years.

Carol is survived by her three children, Linda S. Whitt of Bucyrus, Alan R. Garvin and Melinda of Galion, and Lisa L. Garvin of Mansfield; special nephew and "adopted son," John and Eve Knieriemen of Richmond, Mich.; special friend, Cindy Heltz of Mansfield; special caregiver, John Michael Marshall; seven grandchildren, Bri Garvin, Jessica (Keithen) Branch, Mallory Garvin, Daniel Garvin, Jared (Keirra) Foos, Timothy Whitt and Carolyn Clay; and six great grandchildren, Kinsley, Zaven, Reese, Mia, Jonathon and Dawson. Carol was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Floyd Knieriemen.

It was Carol's wish not to have a public funeral service. Her family will hold a private Celebration of Life service to remember all of the special times that were shared with her and she will be buried next to her husband in Oakwood Cemetery.
