Carla Sauselen

Carla J. Sauselen, 80 years young, went to have eternal rest from her home of over 50 years on Tuesday evening, June 4, 2024 under the care of her family and Avita Hospice after a recent heart attack and stroke.

She was born January 11, 1944 to the late Gail E. and Alice K. (Caskey) Crall and raised on the family farm in Whetstone Twp. She graduated as the homecoming queen of the first class to graduate from Colonel Crawford High School in 1962. Over the years, Carla was employed by Tecumseh, Whetstone Elementary (playground attendant), Baja Boats, and Thiel's Wheels before retiring to spend time with family and spoil her grandchildren.

After meeting at the Bratwurst Festival, Carla shared over two decades of partnership with Dave Mahaney, who always prioritized her best interests. They enjoyed motorcycling, crafting, and gardening together.

Carla loved family get-togethers. It didn't matter if it was a gathering for the holidays or just because, there were always multiple games of euchre played. She also loved rock-n-roll, blasting tunes by The Doors and Cher. She got to enjoy a Cher concert with her daughters for her 70th birthday and they were looking forward to attending Cher the Broadway show.

She enjoyed boating, camping, mowing and pretty much anything that involved being out in the sun and hot weather. Carla loved to go to game rooms, pull tabs, and casino trips which she shared with Toby and Sonya. She also had a deep love for horses. She implored Andy and Tonya about the need for a “hay burner” (horse) on the family cattle farm.

Family was Carla’s first priority and she was always selfless when it came to their needs, whether she heard from them by a call, text, or holler outside, she would stop whatever she was doing to give her attention, support, and understanding. She was the best example of a caring, giving, selfless, and understanding Mom, Grandma, and G.G.

Carla is survived by her companion, Dave; daughters, Sonya (Toby) Coffman and Tonya (Andy) Lohr; grandchildren, Coty Coffman (Melissa Shepherd), Jessica Lohr Alt (Mark Cleland), and Jake Lohr; as well as great grandchildren, Eli and Anna Alt. In addition to her parents, Carla was preceded in death by grandson, Cade Coffman along with her sister and brother in law, Karen (Byron) Smith.

Carla’s family will share memories and celebrate her life with a casual gathering on Friday, June 28 at the Bucyrus Moose Lodge from 6-8 pm.

Those wishing to make donations are encouraged to make them payable to the Alzheimer’s Association or Muscular Dystrophy Association and give through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W Warren St, Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared in the guestbook.
