Blanche Marie Gangluff, 89, died Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her residence.
She was born April 30, 1926 in Wyandot County to the late Howard and Mabel (Hale) Jacobs. Marie was a 1944 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and shortly thereafter married Roy Riedel who preceded her in death in 1958. Marie worked at Swan Rubber and was the company’s first female supervisor. She was an exemplary employee and retired following 18 years of service. Working at Swan offered her many great memories, the greatest being the day she met Daryle Gangluff. They married and 1974 and shared countless memories; whether traveling the country, playing BINGO, Bowling or attending various craft shows, there were many laughs which made her happy.
Marie strongly believed in giving of herself; this showed through simple things such as baking Christmas cookies for neighbors and shut-ins to serving as the head of volunteers for the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Cotta and also held membership in the NIKE Investment Club and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She humbly accepted the Crawford County Council on Aging’s Woman of the year award and would always give financially to those in need.
In addition to BINGO and bowling which consumed much of her life, she enjoyed fishing anywhere she could put a hook in the water, going for a drive, which almost always led to a meal at Carolyn’ Kitchen or relaxing to any movie that starred John Wayne. Marie never left home without her favorite hat and she will certainly be remembered for her excellent chili, sausage and dumplings and apple dumplings; some of the family favorites along with her extensive collection of mouse figurines.
In addition to Daryle, her husband of 41 years, Marie is survived by her greatest accomplishments, her children, Byron Riedel, Roya Ely, Donald (Sandy) McMichael, Mary McMichael-Liston, Kelly McMichael, Phillip (Marilyn) Gangluff and John (Beverly Gayheart) Gangluff; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Mary “Dolly” Hawk, Harrison “Jake” Jacobs and Margie (Jack) Kirby.
Her family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 29 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820, where her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Graveside committal service will take place later that day at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sycamore and those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared below.
