Betty F. Wilkinson, 91, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Bucyrus Community Hospital.
Betty was born September 17, 1925 in Bucyrus to the late Martin and Ruby (White) Krohmer. She grew up in Marion, graduating from Marion Harding High School and received her bachelors degree from the Cincinnati School of Art and Design. Betty moved to Nashville, working as a fashion designer but shortly thereafter, returned to Marion to care for her mother. She took a job at Marion Power Shovel which is where she met William Warren Wilkinson and they married September 30, 1950. They moved to Bucyrus in the early 1960s as Bill was hired in as a Sales Manager with Bucyrus Blades. Betty cared for her family as a homemaker and, when the timing was right, she became a court investigator for the Crawford County Courthouse until her retirement in the early 80s.
Betty and Bill lived life to its fullest until his death in 1992. They traveled abroad but Betty didn’t like being gone for long periods of time as she always missed her children and grandchildren. They loved socializing and going places with friends, which always included shopping (Betty’s favorite thing to do) and they could often be found playing cards as well as their favorite board game, Yahtzee. Betty was an unbelievably gifted artist and loved making her elegantly designed stuffed animals.
Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder. She spent many years volunteering for various organizations and was responsible for bringing the Follies to Bucyrus which once served as a large fundraiser for the Bucyrus Hospital Twig.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Latta of Mason, Ohio and Deb (Bill) Clauss of Cardington; four grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Stripe, Bryan Clauss, Betsy (Adam) Biehl and David Smith; and one great granddaughter, Skylar Rose Biehl. Betty is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Smith of Marion.
She was preceded in death by a son, Martin Smith; son-in-law, Jerry Latta and three siblings, Eleanor LeMasters, Bill Krohmer and Bob Krohmer.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, February 3 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus where her funeral will be held at 10:30 am Saturday. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Donations are requested to be made payable to the Bucyrus Salvation Army or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and given through the funeral home. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
