Betty R. Hauenstein

Betty Hauenstein, 86, of Bucyrus, died Friday, April 9, 2021 at home.

She was born April 4, 1935 in Jefferson City, Tennessee to the late DeSota “DD” and Bobbie (Taylor) Haun. Her family moved to Ohio when she was young, and Betty graduated from Polk High School in 1953. That same year on June 25, she married Marvin L. Hauenstein whom she met through school.

In 1964, they moved to Bucyrus where Betty cared for her family as a homemaker and also spent 25 years working for Jim Gillenwater at his State Farm Ins. Agency.

Faith and family guided Betty’s life. She was an active member of the Bucyrus First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, elder, played in the bell choir and each morning during breakfast, read her daily devotions. When it came to family, Betty was their rock and the glue that held them together. She looked for any excuse to get her family together and this is when she was the happiest.

She enjoyed bowling and golfing and was proud to have been a past champion of the Women’s Bowling Invitational. She and Marvin enjoyed many trips but after the two-week period, Betty was ready to return to those nearest and dearest to her heart, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She doted on them like no one else and was one of their biggest supporters through their activities. When she did have down time, Betty kept her brain sharp by working crossword puzzles, and always used a pen.

She will be missed by Marvin, her husband of nearly 68 years as well as two daughters, Cheryl (Kelly) White and Cindy (Randy) Inscho; seven grandchildren, Jason (Erin) McMullen Jennay (Mark) Cacchio, Justin (Sherri) McMullen, Curtis Inscho, Craig (Anna) Inscho Tamara (John) Rossey and Kevin (Chelsey) White; 15 great grandchildren and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted Haun and Ed Haun.

Her family will receive friends from 10-10:55 am Wednesday, April 14 at the First Presbyterian Church, where her service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeremy McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Her family specifically requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made payable to either Avita Hospice or to the First Presbyterian Church. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service or at the church on the morning of services. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
