Betty Marie Snavely, 79, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.
She was born August 28, 1934 in Columbia, Kentucky to the late James and Lola (Bryant) Denton. Betty grew up in the area and attended school at Mt. Zion. On February 23, 1951 she married Earnest “Bud” Snavely. They enjoyed 61 plus years of marriage until his passing this past December.
In addition to caring for her family as a homemaker, Betty worked for Bucyrus City Schools in the food service dept. She absolutely loved her entire family. She and Bud were seat savers at every ball game their grandchildren participated in as they were always the first two through the door. There were many family gatherings where she would prepare her famous baked beans and it was an annual Christmas time tradition for her and the girls to make popcorn balls and peanut brittle.
Betty spent much time in her garden, growing tomatoes and green beans and she loved playing bingo at the Conservation League. She and Bud enjoyed their trips to Las Vegas, watching sports on TV and family knew better than to call her when the Price is Right was on. Betty in fact ventured to Toledo for a traveling Price is Right show and was proud to have won a blue Honda Civic while there.
Betty is survived by her three daughters, Sharon (Bob) Hamm of Dover, Theresa (Doug) Yaussy and Lora (Mike) Cox both of Bucyrus; six grandchildren, Matthew (Heather) Hamm, Michael (Kendra) Hamm, Robbie (Lindsey) Hamm, Mitch Cox, Kyle Cox and Britt Cox; five great grandchildren, Charlie, Emma, Ben, Jack, and Max Hamm. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill (Carla) Denton of Bucyrus and Jim (Geneva) Denton of Marion and one sister, Jean Freeman of Chatfield. Betty is preceded in death by a brother, James E. Denton and a sister, Ilene Mahley.
