Betty J. Greenick, 88, of Bucyrus and formerly of Mansfield and Galion, died peacefully at Orchard Park Assisted Living in Bucyrus where she had resided nearly two years.
She was born in Mansfield on May 22, 1927, the only child of the late Leslie and Lena (Belle) Dunn. After graduating from Mansfield Sr. High, she received her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University before earning a Master of Library Science at Western Reserve University. She was a teacher in Fredericktown before returning to Mansfield to teach and then to work as a librarian. She settled in Galion when she married Ed Greenick in 1967 and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1993.
Betty had the opportunity to travel, making a number of trips out west with her parents and other family members, and occasionally visiting Florida with Ed. She had a strong faith and worshipped with the former First United Methodist Church, now Christ UMC, in Galion, enjoying the company of ladies’ groups and helping care for their sick. She and Ed also enjoyed dancing, visiting a number of social clubs and even hosting an occasional dance in their basement. Mostly, Betty will be remembered for her love of getting together with family and for being a voracious reader, often reading until midnight after finishing the dishes in the evening.
Betty is survived by extended family, including her cousin, Joan Sharp (whom Betty often called her sister) and caregivers, Ray (Barbara) Greenick and Mick (Renee) Sharp and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wish to recognize the exceptional care given to Betty by the staffs of Orchard Park and Southern Care Hospice and Dr. James Goudy for his many years of caring for Betty.
Betty’s funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 28 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St. in Bucyrus with Rev. Jerry Penrod, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Family may call beginning at 12:30 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church and memories can be shared in the Memorial Guestbook below.
