Berneice M. Landes

Berneice Marie Landes, 93, died Friday, June 9, 2017 at Orchard Park Assisted Living in Bucyrus.



She was born October 22, 1923 in Liberty Twp., Crawford County to the late Edward F. and Delverta C. (Shafer) Schnarrenberger. Berneice was a 1942 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and then began a brief bookkeeping career. She worked for various automotive garages and lastly for Ken Smith Automotive.



On May 16, 1959 she married Kenneth D. Landes who died July 28, 2008. Berneice loved people and she will be remembered for her contagious smile and laugh. Christmas was special time as it allowed her to bring joy to others through her cookies. At one point, she had baked around 100 different kinds, which she and her son delivered to many. This was a tradition that spanned many years and warmed a lot of hearts. Berneice also spent a lot of time in the garden and canned what was grown. She cooked a very tasty pot roast on Sundays and cherished time spent with friends playing bridge in her various clubs.

Berneice was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bucyrus Eastern Star, and Ladies Shrine Club.



She is survived by one son, Dr. Michael D. Landes of Enid, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Rachael, Donovan, Michael II, Luke, Valerie, and Gionna “GiGi;” one brother, Donald (Vonetta “Bonnie”) Schnarrenberger of Bucyrus as well as a close family friend, Cindy (Stan) Eusey and numerous nieces and nephews. Berneice was preceded in death by one brother, James Schnarrenberger.



Friends may gather from 10-10:55 am Thursday, June 15 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, where her memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Greenler officiating. Burial will take place later that day in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.



Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made payable to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and given through Wise Funeral Service or at the church on the morning of her services.
