Benny R. Lynn, Sr., 80, of Bucyrus, died peacefully Friday, September 5, 2014 at his residence.
He was born March 11, 1934 in Richmond, Va. to the late Rev. Earnest and Pearl (Cook) Lynn. Benny grew up in a holler in Amonate, Va and attended school nearby where he was a drum major.
On August 30, 1952 he married Wanda L. Irving and shortly thereafter moved to Bucyrus where he began working at Shunk Manufacturing for a short time before taking a job at Swan Rubber where he spent over 35 years. Benny believed in hard work and providing for family, so while working at Swan, he spent a number of years also working at Garvin’s Gulf. He finished his work career at Fowler’s in Crestline where he spent ten years and he also helped out at the Bucyrus Auto Laundry on E. Mansfield Street.
Benny lived by the Golden Rule and was always responsible enough to live within his means. He enjoyed the simple things in life and never met a stranger. He could be found on his front porch visiting with friends and neighbors or simply admiring the beautiful purple flowers in his well-kept yard. He spoiled his dogs whenever he had the chance and often took one of them for a ride in the car. Benny loved watching his grandchildren at their Bucyrus Redmen sporting events and he also followed the Indians, Browns and Buckeyes. He did his best to keep Morgan’s Chewing tobacco company in business; he longed for his daily bowl of ice cream and Benny always found time to watch professional wrestling or an old western.
He is survived by his children, Benny “Sonny” (Cindy) Lynn, Jr. of Bucyrus, Jeff (Shelley) Lynn of Greeley, Colo., Kelly (William) Custer of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Christa (Dave) Graves of Bucyrus, Jessica (Steve) Coffman of Tiffin and Josh Jager of Bucyrus. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Benny is now joined in Heaven with his parents, his wife of 62 years, Wanda L. Lynn, a daughter, Debbie Lynn as well as a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 9 at Wise Funeral Service where his funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10 with Pastor Jack Hager, Benny’s minister from Christ Gospel Church officiating. His family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be given to Crawford County Council on Aging, Humane Society serving Crawford County or HomeCare Matters Hospice through the funeral home.
