Barbara A. Jones

Barbara A. Jones, 94, formerly of Bucyrus and Marion, passed peacefully in Ft. Myers, Florida on December 18, 2023. 

Barb was born September 21, 1929 in Marion, Ohio to the late Kenneth R. and Grace B. (Bricker) Albert and was a 1947 graduate of Marion Harding High School. She went on to complete her certified training from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology. For many years she operated Barb’s Beauty Bar out of her home while living first in Waverly and concluded her hair styling career in Bucyrus. 

Barb was introduced to Kenneth Jones through Ken’s best friend Richard who her sister, Norma Jean, was dating. On September 17, 1950, Barb and Ken married and adored each other until his passing on January 24, 1999. Barb provided exemplary care for her family as a homemaker and always kept their home neat, tidy, and immaculately decorated. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always made their time together memorable. 

For the past 25 years, Barb has enjoyed the colder months spent in Winter Haven, Florida.  Whether in Ohio or Florida, she always found time for a round of golf. Her drives were consistently straight, and she could putt the golf ball with the best of them. Barb also enjoyed a good card game such as euchre or bridge, and loved playing BINGO. She and her sister, Phyllis, shared many good times together especially on their shopping excursions where she’d always find great deals. Barb rarely missed her monthly bus trip to the casino and although she didn’t play enough to win big, she always had fun.  

Barb was a longtime member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church and, in more recent years, attended Trinity Baptist Church in Marion, the church she grew up in. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and looked forward to their monthly lunch gatherings. She will be remembered as an active and always on the go lady, who was extremely proud of her family, and did many good deeds for others throughout her life.  

Barb is survived by children, Janice (Larry) Walimire, Daniel (Tami) Jones and Matthew (Angela) Jones; grandchildren, Kimberly (Melchor) Carrillo, Dr. Peter (Meredith) Walimire, Kristen (Mark) McLaughlin, Mackenzie Jones, Barbara Kerbe (David) Shephard, Madelyn Jones, Carter Jones and fiancée, Abbey Faucett, and Tyler Jones; 10 great grandchildren and her sister, Phyllis Simmons. 

She was preceded in death by sisters, Geneva (Delmar) Brewer, Virginia (Clyde) Jones and Norma Jean (Richard) Field. 

Her family will receive friends from 1 – 3 pm Saturday, December 23 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, OH, where a private service will follow. She will be privately laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.  

Barb’s family strongly encourages that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made payable to Bucyrus United Methodist Church and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Online memories are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook.
