Barbara Jean Marcum

Barbara Jean Marcum, 83 of Chatfield, died late Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Carlisle House.

She was born March 24, 1929 in Athens County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arch and Marjorie Elizabeth (Wray) Brooks. Jean graduated from Athens High School in 1946 and the next year she married James W. Marcum who preceded her in death in 1991.

Jean was "all mom" to her family and she loved caring for them as a homemaker. She took much pride in cooking a great meal, baking sweet treats and sewing for her family. She loved children so much that she also babysat for many of the families in Chatfield and her greatest joy was making children happy.

Jean was a conservative lady who loved serving her Lord with gladness and enjoyed attending church at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bucyrus. Through time spent at church she built friendships with several ladies who she spent many hours socializing with and playing games such as UNO and SKIP-BO. She enjoyed being a member of the Chatfield WOW and also enjoyed canning and working in her flower garden. Jean's home had some of the prettiest floral porch boxes in Chatfield. She enjoyed watching OSU, Cleveland Browns and Indians and kept up on day to day happenings with Fox News.

Her greatest accomplishment was raising six well respected children, James Robert "Bob" (Sharon) Marcum of Chatfield, Carol Marcum of Bucyrus, Bill (Laurie) Marcum of New Washington, Kathy Gebhardt of Bucyrus, Jenny (David) Kehres of Westerville and Tim (Lisa) Marcum of Tiro. Jean is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Kimberly Marcum, Amanda (Greg) Potts, Michelle (Dan) Eckstein, Scott (Aubrey) Marcum, Aaron Marcum, Laura Gebhardt, Josh Gebhardt, Heather (Kurt) Fischbach, Christina Kehres, Michael Kehres, Trenna Marcum and Sammi Marcum; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Glenn (Virginia) Brooks of Albany, Ohio; three sisters, Margie Hoffman of Bucyrus, Donna (Dale) Miller of Bucyrus and Bess (Joe) Miller of Athens, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Brooks of Athens, Ohio and Kathleen Marcum of Marshfield, Ohio

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean is preceded in death by her brother, Sherman Brooks and two sisters, Merna Swart and Betty Bailey.

Her family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 31 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bucyrus First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in Lust Cemetery south of Chatfield.
