Arvine J. Kindinger, 83, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Riverside Hospital from complications of heart failure.

He was born in Crestline, Ohio to Wilhelmina L. “Billie” Rieger and Arvine C. Kindinger. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Ann “Peg” Parcher; daughter, Jill and her husband Paul Widmark of Sachse, Texas; granddaughter, Sarah E. “Betsy” and her husband, Captain Alan Holt, USMC of Kailua, Hawaii; one brother, Donald Kindinger and his wife Jane, of Crestline.

Arvine graduated from Crestline High School in 1948 and attended Heidelberg College before enlisting in the US Army. He served at Fort Clayton in the Panama Canal Zone as part of the 71st US Army Band. Upon his return, he worked in his parent’s business, Crestline Music Store, then graduated from Ashland College with a B. A. in Music. In 1956, Arvine began teaching instrumental music in the small rural schools surrounding Bucyrus including Mt. Zion, Nevada, Holmes Liberty, Lykens and Antrim. Then the schools consolidated to form Wynford School district, he taught beginning, junior high and high school instrumental music there until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed nurturing his student’s musical abilities and showcasing their talents during parades, football marching band shows, musicals and the Royal Follies.

Arvine possessed a natural aptitude for all things musical. Although he studied violin, cello and piano as a child, his instrument of choice was the upright string bass. He performed in local dance bands, including the John Kennedy Orchestra.

After retirement, he was involved with many civic projects, including the Toledo & Ohio Central train station restoration. He was a member of the American Legion Post 181and the Bucyrus Preservation Society.

His family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 21 at Wise Funeral Service, where his funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Dave Bliss officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites provided by the American Legion Post 181 and US Army Honor Guards.

Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
