Anna Sipe

Anna M. Sipe, 94, longtime resident of Oceola, was welcomed to Heaven as she knelt in prayer early Thursday morning, July 30, 2015 at Maplecrest Assisted Living in Bucyrus where she had resided in recent years.

She was born in Oceola on May 6, 1921 to the late Walter and Sylvia (Mutchler) Miller. Anna graduated from Holmes-Liberty 1939 and worked for Swan Rubber before becoming a homemaker and later hiring in as one of the original employees of the Bucyrus GE lamp plant.

Anna married Raymond M. Sipe on September 22, 1950 and, in addition to raising a family together, helped operate Sipe’s Sohio, now known as the Oceola Garage and operated by their son, Dale. She enjoyed being outgoing with the public, especially garage customers, and seeing that friends, family and strangers alike were always fed. She and Raymond were married 42 years when he preceded her in death January 27, 1993.

She had a deep faith in her savior that was instilled by her mother. Anna taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Oceola Methodist Church and was currently a member of First Alliance Church in Bucyrus. The men of the church honored her as their “Aunt of the Year” in 2005 and she always beamed with pride when a pew or two was filled with her family. Anna was a proud member of the former Oceola Homemakers Club and the “Red Hot Dibs” Red Hatters Group. She and Raymond enjoyed bus trips with the Happy Travelers Club and any occasion to have a family get-together. At home, she loved making and mending clothes, quilting, cross-stitch, embroidery, gardening, canning and enjoyed munching on dill pickles, drinking a hot cup of coffee, and keeping a full candy dish.

Anna is survived by sons, Jerry (Jan) Kottyan of Bucyrus and Dale (Judy) Sipe of Oceola; daughters, Wanda (Tom) Bowser and Lynne (James) Fisher, both of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Tammy (Dan) Schifer, Trisha (Dean) Williams, Tonia Sipe, Jason Bowser, Matthew (Hannah) Bowser, BethAnn (Scott) Bosworth, Adam (Elissa) Bowser, Sarah (Christopher) Corney and Shelby Sipe; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Arden (Sonya) Miller along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by her son, David Raymond and daughter, Beth Ann; sisters, Dolly Honsberger and Jane Bower and brothers, Robert, William, Junior, Eugene and Wayne Miller.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 am at First Alliance Church, 1955 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus with Pastor Bill Strader officiating and burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.
