Anna Maxine Ekleberry, 100, died peacefully Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Kingston Residence in Marion, Ohio. Maxine was born on April 1, 1921 in New Washington, Ohio, the daughter of Arthur and Lois Marquart.
Maxine graduated from New Washington High School in 1939 and continued her education at Tiffin Business College. After graduation she moved to Bucyrus to begin her work career. She served as a WAVE during WW II from September 1944 to July 1946.
On June 12, 1949, Maxine married Richard E. Ekleberry who preceded her in death on February 14, 2009. After marriage, Maxine became a fulltime homemaker. She was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. Maxine belonged to the Bucyrus Hospital TWIG and spent many hours at the hospital gift shop. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association and served other community organizations. Maxine enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, sewing, painting and being with her family and friends.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Jan (Dave) Baker and Elaine Lawson; four grandsons; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ruth Marquart and son-in-law, Rick Lawson.
Please join Maxine’s family at her graveside in Oakwood Cemetery on Tuesday, January 4 where her funeral will be held at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Baker officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the US Navy Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made payable to Good Hope Lutheran Church and will be accepted at either Wise Funeral Service or during the time of her service. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her tribute wall.
