Allan E. Schiefer

Allan E. Schiefer, 85, died Monday, September 19, 2022 at his home under the care of his family and Southern Care Hospice.

He was born May 15, 1937 in Bucyrus to the late Welden and Ruth J. (Heinlen) Schiefer. Allan enjoyed growing up in rural Crawford County where he played, explored, farmed, fished, hunted, and graduated in 1955 from Holmes-Liberty High School. He raised livestock and was active in 4-H and FFA. Allan married Sandra Jo Linn on June 30, 1956 and they shared 62 years of marriage until her death in 2018. Allan delivered milk for Lone Pine Dairy and then worked in manufacturing for various companies before joining his brother-in-law, Gene Linn, in the fertilizer supply business, establishing County Line Soil Service. He also sold insurance, in addition to farming his own land and helping family and neighbors.

Allan’s life was changed eternally when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in April 1972. A month later, as he grew in his new faith, he quit smoking cold turkey, trading cigarettes for a toothpick he often held in his mouth. Allan was instrumental in the growth of Wayside Chapel under the ministry of Reuben Leuthold. He served on the deacon board, helped establish the school, and grilled hot dogs to serve after his favorite Singspiration Fellowship services. Outside of church, Allan enjoyed lunches with his siblings, school and family reunions, boating and camping at Lake Erie, coon hunting, and gathering with family to freeze corn each fall that his granddaughter Rachael affectionately named “National Corn Day.” He enjoyed mowing the lawns at his home, researching genealogy, listening to (some would say napping through) Rush Limbaugh, and the company of his beloved dog, Andy.

Allan is survived by son, Geoffrey (Stephanie) Schiefer; daughter, Linn (Tim) Ash; son-in-law, Scott (Anita) Harris; grandchildren, Coltan (Allyson) Schiefer, Levi (Anna) Schiefer, Bethany Harris, Marianne Harris, Gretchen (Seth) Keller, Nathanael Harris, David Jay Ash, and Rachael Linn Ash; great grandchildren, Audyn Lake Schiefer and Maura Keller; sisters, Karen (Donovan) Scott & family and Marian (Larry) Vance & family; and Norman & Ellie’s sons, Tom Schiefer and John Schiefer & their respective families.

In addition to his parents and wife, Allan was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer Jo Harris; granddaughter, Grace Harris-Nichols; and brother Norman and sister-in-law Ellie Schiefer.

Services will take place at Wise Funeral Service on Saturday, September 24. Family will receive friends from 1-2:55 pm, followed by the funeral at 3:00 with Pastor Jerrill Wyler officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Wayside Chapel, Crawford County Genealogical Society, or the Grace Harris-Nichols Foundation (“Grace’s Light”) and given at the funeral home.

The service can be viewed live and memories and photos can be shared from Allan’s Tribute Wall.
