Ruth E. Miller

Ruth E. Miller, 85, of Bucyrus, died Friday, July 15, 2016 at Signature Health Care of Galion.

She was born August 28, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pa to the late Rev. Vanus and Dorothy Smith. She attended high school in Clyde but graduated from Olney High School. Her family then moved to the area as her dad took the pastoral position at Mt. Zion EUB. Shortly thereafter, the ladies of the church introduced her to Carl A. Miller and they were married on November 24, 1951 and enjoyed 57 plus years of marriage until his death in 2009.

Ruth devoted her life to caring for her family. She gladly drove them from place to place and when they working in the fields and dinner time occurred, she wasn’t shy about ringing the bell to call them in. Sunday was a special day of the week for Ruth as for the past 60 years following church she would prepare a feast and her family would gather for food and fellowship.

Ruth was formerly active at both Mt. Zion and Woodlawn UMC and a longtime volunteer with the Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and the American Red Cross. She served as a Gray Lady and was a charter member of the Mt. Zion Mother’s Roundtable Club and until recently, she enjoyed meeting with a few of those ladies for a monthly luncheon.

She is survived by two children, David Miller of Bucyrus and Kay (Roger) Weisenauer of Bloomville; two grandchildren, Derek (Lindsay) Weisenauer of Hilliard and Kerri (Tyler) Pope of New Washington; two great grandchildren, Alexis and Kellen Pope; two siblings, Robert (June) Smith of Gahanna and Shirley Tootell of Eustis, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by one son, Donald R. Miller.

Friends may call from 10 – 12 noon Tuesday, July 19 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held that day beginning at 12 noon. Pastor Mike Corwin officiating and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Ruth would be thankful for any contributions given in her memory to the Bucyrus Salvation Army because she knew all money remained in our community for local assistance. Memories are encouraged to be shared by visiting her tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
