Richard S. Brown

Richard Stanley Brown, 95, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully on Sunday January 2, 2022 at Carlisle Place. He previously lived at Maplecrest prior to their closure.

He was born September 10, 1926 in Chatfield to the late Mervin Dean and Naomi Ruth (Hoss) Brown and was a graduate of Chatfield High School.

Richard grew up on the family farm and because his dad died when he was young, Richard learned farming and the meaning of hard work at a youthful age. He carried on the farm for several years and also spent 30 years at Timken where he worked as a storekeeper until retiring in 1987. He will be remembered by former Chatfield students as their bus driver and by Servies customers as the grocery deliveryman.

On October 6, 1946, Richard married Janice M. (Vnasdale) and they had three daughters together. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1963. On September 19, 1964, he married Joyce A. Daiber and they’ve shared 57 years of marriage.

Earlier in life, Richard had been active in the Pietist Church. He was also a longtime member of the Bucyrus Nazarene Church where at one time, he served as an usher, church board member and drove the church bus when needed.

He and Joyce enjoyed trips to Amish Country, and he took pride in making wooden toys which he gave to family and friends as gifts.

Richard is survived by wife, Joyce; three daughters, Judy (Millard) Foraker of Denver, Colorado, Marilyn Kennedy and Arlene Lyman both of Delaware, Ohio; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Morton of Bucyrus as well as other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and their respective spouses; Lula (Kenny) Hawk, Martha (Albert) Leuthold, Ruth (Carl) Cotsamire, and Mary who died in infancy; brother-in-law, Jim Morton and son-in-law, Gail Lyman.

At this time, there will be no public services and Richard will be buried in Lust Cemetery, south of Chatfield. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. If desired, donations can be made payable to Samaritan Purse and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy can be shared on his tribute wall.
