When a man has a smile and friendly attitude that can lift the somber moods of those around him, he has the ability to change the world. This man is Dan Hall. Dan brought the best out in all who knew him and was a joy to be around. Family and friends are mourning his death which occurred last week.
He was born May 12, 1971 in Bucyrus, where he grew up and graduated from Wynford High School in 1989 and was proud to have been a member in the Wynford marching band as well as enjoyed playing with fellow alumni as the years went on. He then went on to graduate from OSU which led him to a career working globally in Geological Exploration. Dan spent a majority of his career with Bell Geospace allowing him to see some of the best and the worst that the world had to offer. He also gained a better understanding opposing views and created a long list of lifelong friends along the way. He had a passion for brewing beer, a desire strengthened from his world exposure. This led him to experiment with the process and become a competitive brew master, receiving a gold merit and a bronze merit for two different beers at a regional competition held in Chicago. He ran with his passion and was in the process of opening a local brewery in Bucyrus which was cut short by his passing.
Dan lived life to the fullest and will be remembered for his infectious smile and his love of being around family and friends. He loved being a father and led his daughters as well as his nieces and nephews on many wild adventures through the years. He held a single engine pilots license and flew whenever the opportunity arose. Whether collecting fossils and rocks or hiking and kayaking he found peace in being one with nature. If he had to be indoors, it was most likely to catch a movie with family or to root on his Buckeyes.
He is survived by his father, Charles (Chris) Hall; daughters, Katherine “Kat” and Alexandra “Alie” Hall along with their mother, Virginia Hall; brothers, Steve (Candee) Hall and Mike (Angie) Hall; his second father, John Mizick and step sister, Kelly Nelsen. Dan is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Tyler Hall, Tucker Hall, Chelsea Mosley, Matthew Hall, Lindsay Mosley, Ethan Hall, Samantha Nelsen, Ryan Nelsen and Shane Nelsen who all joyously referred to him as Uncle Dan; as well as Aunts, Uncle, Cousins and all his friends who he considered family.
Part of Dan’s world halted when his mother, Kathy Mizick died this past year.
His family will gather with friends from 5-8 pm Friday, September 22 and from 2-3:50 Saturday, September 23 at Wise Funeral Service, where a celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday.
Memorial contributions can be made payable to Wynford Band Boosters and will be accepted though the funeral home.
